Featuring one-touch transmission, the JVC HC-E100 pocket e-mail device sends and receives e-mail from most home, office, hotel, analog cellular, and pay phones. Utilizing acoustic technology with proprietary error correction algorithms, the JVC HC-E100 can send or receive a 1,000-character message in less than 30 seconds, even considering issues such as handshaking and error correction. This device lets you send messages to e-mail addresses, fax machines, and alphanumeric pagers with standard Internet addresses; you can receive e-mail from any Internet e-mail account via an individually customizable Internet e-mail address (such as name@pocketmail.com).The screen is scrollable and handles eight lines of text up to 40 characters with a 4,000-character maximum. A full QWERTY keyboard makes typing simple, while convenient in/out mailbox buttons help you keep track of incoming and outgoing mail. Convenience features include an address book, an adjustable earpiece, auto power off after three minutes, a dedicated add/done button, screen prompts, and status indicator lights. The HC-E100 requires a monthly subscription to operate ($9.95 per month at time of writing) and comes with two AA alkaline batteries, which last an estimated four to six weeks under normal use, and a CR1616 lithium coin-cell battery.
